2048 X-Mas Game for Kids Video Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • Select the red and green PLAY button at the bottom of the welcome screen to start the game.
  • A how to play instruction screen will show. Select the START button at the bottom of it to begin play.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Move tiles left by pressing the A key or the left arrow key.
    • Move tiles left by pressing the D key or the right arrow key.
    • Move tiles up by pressing the W key or the up arrow key.
    • Move tiles down by pressing the S key or the down arrow key.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Tap the green arrow buttons at the bottom of the screen to slide tiles in any of the 4 directions.
  • Controls & indicators
    • Your score is shown top center.
    • Each tile has its value shown in the upper right corner.
    • The lower left corner has an exit game button while the lower right corner has a game restart button.
• Game Play
  • Merging
    • When 2 adjacent tiles have the same value they will merge together if you push one toward the other.
      • Stones will merge into the furthest location along in the direction you are pushing.
      • If there are 3 consecutive stones with the same value the 2 furthest along stones will merge into a stone of double the value while the third stone does not.
      • If there are 4 consecutive stones with the same value they will merge into 2 stones of the next higher value.
    • Each time you push in any direction a new tile worth 2 is added somewhere on the opposite side.
    • When you push in any direction all tiles which can move proceed in the direction you chose.
      • In most cases individual merges happen in isolation, but some merges can set off a chain reaction where a single move sets up a subsequent move that can happen automatically.
      • When stones can not merge any more and all 16 cells are full it is game over.
        • Be careful with working the direction back and forth to set up chains of merges from prior merges when there are few open spots left.
        • As you fill the board with higher valued tiles it gets easier to lose as it is harder to match the higher valued tiles.
  • Scoring
    • Each time you merge tiles you score the points shown on the tile. If you merge 2 tiles worth 8 into a tile worth 16 you will score 16 points on the move.
  • Ending game
    • The game ends when you run out of spaces where you can make a move & the 4×4 grid is full of tiles with no valid moves remaining.
