Alexandria Attacks Game for Kids Video Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • Press the orange and white PLAY button near the bottom of the game loading screen to bring up the game’s welcome screen.
  • Select the orange and white PLAY button near the bottom center of the game’s welcome screen to begin playing.
    • Your web browser automatically saves your game progress including completed levels, coin savings, and purchased upgrades.
  • The welcome screen has reset progress and sound control buttons in the upper right corner. It also has a shop button in the lower left, and a trophies achievement button in the lower right.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Move left by pressing either the A key or the left arrow key on your keyboard.
    • Move right by pressing either the D key or the right arrow key on your keyboard.
    • Jump by pressing either the W key or the up arrow key on your keyboard.
    • Use your mouse to control your aim & hit the left click button to fire.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Use the on screen controls.
      • The jump, move left, and move right controls are in the lower left corner of the screen.
      • The shoot button is in the lower right. Hold it to shoot & move your finger around the button to adjust your shot aim.
    • This game is likely far easier for most players on desktop devices rather than cell phones due to the larger screen size which makes aiming easier & offers more granular control of your shot aim.
  • Controls & indicators
    • Most of the game controls are across the top. From left to right: pause button, health, mana, coin savings, and control game sound.
    • The weapon reload button is in the left column.
    • The right column has 3 buttons for the power ups: dynamite, grenades, and molotov cocktails.
• Game Play
  • Basics
    • This is a base defense styled 2D shooter game where you defeat waves of alien enemies.
    • Pick up the coins the aliens drop & use them to purchase upgrades.
  • Levels
    • This game has 30 levels which are unlocked sequentially.
      • You can’t go back and replay previously beat levels without restarting the game.
      • When you defeat the final level the game remains on level 30 unless you erase your game progress.
    • Waves
      • The first level of the game contains 3 discrete waves.
      • As you progress through the game levels have more waves in them & each wave is harder. Level 29 has 7 waves of enemies.
      • The final level consists of a single wave where you must defeat the boss.
    • Winning vs losing
      • You beat a level by defeating all the aliens on it while still having some health remaining on your health meter.
        • Your health is restored to 100% anytime you beat a level.
      • You lose a level by running out of health before all the aliens are defeated.
        • If you lose a level you start back at the beginning of the same level, even if you were on wave 7 of 7 when you lost.
        • This game offers unlimited continues.
  • Upgrades
    • Weapons: in addition to the default pistol you can purchase unlocks for a rifle, dual revolvers, shotgun, laser gun, fire ball, rocket launcher, and gatling gun.
      • When a weapon is unlocked it remains unlocked for the duration of play.
      • You can repeatedly switch back and forth between the weapons used.
      • In general the more expensive weapons are better than the cheaper weapons, with the only exception being the rocket launcher can be better than the gatling gun.
      • A table below provides information for the various weapons you can unlock.
    • Allies: Initially you fight with your basic gun and mana which can be converted into the 3 power ups. As you progress through the game there are additional allies unlocked.
      • Immediately you can purchase mana upgrades which start at 40 coins & allow your mana to restore 5% faster.
      • After level 3 you unlock an exterminator which appears periodically. Initially you can upgrade its fire rate by 10% for 40 coins & then later upgrade its life can be upgraded by 20% so it lasts longer. It is a typical infantry which only shoots in one direction directly horizontally across the screen.
      • After level 9 you unlock a turret, which can be helpful to destroy aerial opponents. The initial upgrade cost is 50 & each upgrade increases the fire rate by 5%.
      • After level 14 you unlock a laser. You can upgrade its fire rate by 5% starting at 50 coins. The laser can attack ground or aerial forces.
    • Power-ups: the game has 3 different power ups you can use.
      • Each power up uses mana.
        • Dynamite costs 20.
        • Grenade costs 50.
        • Molotov cocktails cost 80.
      • You start each level with 100 mana.
        • Each time you use a power up your mana meter partially empties.
        • Mana slowly rebuilds as you play through a level.
        • To use each power up you must have sufficient remaining mana and the power up must also be recharged.
  • Achievements
    • The game has a trophies menu listing 10 different trophies you can collect.
      • Defeat 10, 100, 300, 500, and 1,000 aliens.
      • Beat 15 levels & beat all 30 levels.
      • Collect 500 coins.
      • Unlock all 7 paid guns.
      • Use dynamite at least 50 times.
  • Tips
    • Coin usage
      • Whenever you lose a level you still collect the coins you gained from that level.
      • Try to upgrade guns as rapidly as you can as you can still easily beat the game with minimal upgrades of other features.
      • The final level does not give you any coins when you beat it, so be sure you have purchased all the upgrades you want before beating level 29.
        • It can even make sense to intentionally repeatedly lose on level 29 to purchase more upgrades.
    • If you are playing on a desktop computer and are uncomfortable using a mouse along with the arrow keys, try to use the WASD keys instead.
    • Aerial enemies
      • In general it is best to take out aerial enemies before ground enemies as many aerial enemies have range attacks while ground enemies simply walk into you.
      • Perhaps the most annoying enemy in the game is the flying alien that is slightly above the ground which shoots a blue beam of energy at you.
        • Its shots move fast and can take 10 hit points each, while it repeatedly fire on you.
        • When its shots get near you jump over the shots and try to take it out as quickly as possible.
        • On level 25 you face a ground enemy which looks sort of like a bathtub. It shoots the same sort of shot as the above enemy does.
    • Ground enemies
      • If the ground is overwhelmed with enemies try to take out whichever side is weak first & then shoot the other enemies while you are backing away from them.
      • If both sides are strong jump while moving across and drop dynamite, a grenade, or a Molotov cocktail while you move across.
    • Reloading
      • If your gun takes a while to reload try to reload during a wave when there is only one enemy remaining on it, or reload as soon as the wave ends.
      • If you are stuck with many enemies on the screen while you reload you can rely on your power ups to buy a bit of time.
    • Boss battle
      • The key to beating the boss is to keep shooting at it while keeping your distance.
      • When the boss gets near you near either edge of the screen time your jump across it so you escape before you would get hit, and then keep shooting at the boss while you run to the other side of the screen.
• Target Audience
  • The game is suited for players who like shooter games.
    • Players shoot various guns at aliens, though the game does not show blood.
  • Other than the above the game has no adult themed content.
