Gumball’s Water Sons Game for Kids Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • Click the PLAY button at the bottom center of the screen to start the game. This will bring up the level select screen.
    • Initially only the first level is unlocked.
    • Beating a level unlocks the next.
    • You can go back and replay previously beat levels to try to score a higher rating on them.
  • The welcome screen contains sound and music control buttons in the upper left corner and a credits button in the lower left corner.
  • Your web browser automatically stores your beat levels and level ratings.
    • You can erase this data by clicking the trashcan icon in the sun on the level select screen, or you can start from scratch again by playing the game in a different web browser.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Use your mouse cursor to adjust the shot strength and angle of your shot.
      • A red tracing line shows the shot’s trajectory.
      • Left click on your mouse to shoot.
    • Hit the spacebar to switch from Gumball to Darwin.
      • Gumball shoots water.
      • Darwin shoots rocks.
  • Mobile
    • This game is significantly harder on mobile than on desktop as aiming and shooting are a single move, your finger can get in the way of your vision, and the screen size is smaller so there is a larger margin of error.
    • You can tap and drag your finger to aim the shot and set it’s strength, then release to fire.
    • On desktop players use the space bar to switch between characters. On mobile you can tap in the character select area at the bottom of the screen to switch between characters.
  • The game’s level select screen contains sound and music controls in the upper left corner.
  • Inside of levels there are details shown along the bottom of the screen.
    • The item count states how many items you started with and how many remain for the currently selected character.
    • Next is the currently active character.
    • Then there are 4 settings buttons: restart level, go to level select screen, music control, sound control.
• Gameplay
  • Ratings
    • Your goal in this game is to hydrate all of Gumball’s friends using the fewest number of water shots possible.
    • As long as you do not run out of water until after all the friends are hydrated you can still beat the level even if you waste some water, but you won’t get three stars if some water items are wasted.
  • Shooting
    • In general you want to use Gumball’s water shot exclusively to shoot water at your friends.
    • Darwin’s shot use is far more diverse: break ice, knock stones over, hit switches to open passageways or move platforms, etc.
  • Aiming
    • For most shots the red guidelines are super helpful.
    • There are a few exceptions:
      • when you must throw things through a warp (you often want to do so with a lot of force)
      • when you bounce an item off a pillow or other bouncy wall (again, you typically have to shoot with greater force)
      • when you have to land water on a platform it helps to shoot with less arc so the water balloon does not pop when it lands
      • when you open up a platform carrying water be sure you are aware of the direction it typically falls so it can land on a friend
  • Levels
    • You can unlock a levels even if you only score a single star.
    • When you beat a level be sure you click the “CONTINUE” button to unlock the subsequent level. If you retry the level for a higher score and can’t beat it again the subsequent level would not be unlocked.
  • Dying
    • If you run out of water and some friends are still thirsty it is game over.
    • This game allows you to continue an unlimited number of times on any given level.
  • Strategy
    • As you get closer to the end of the game levels become more complex.
    • If you are able to beat a level but are not able to get 3 stars on it you can finish other levels and then come back to it after you start the game.
    • It helps to break levels down into discrete concrete chunks.
      • Levels are not timed, so if you do not need to take a rushed shot do not.
      • On some levels where you have to throw a rock to hit a switch the gate may only stay open for a short period of time so then you have to quickly follow up with water.
