Basket Champs Basketball Game Play Instructions
How to Play
Aim your shot to where it will go directly into the basket or bank off the backboard and release to shoot. Beat your competition in a best of 5 shooting contest to advance.
- Starting the Game
- Click the blue Play button at the bottom of the welcome screen to start a game.
- This will bring up the country select screen listing the following countries.
- Group A: United States, Lithuania, Greece, Dominican Republic & United Kingdom
- Group B: Spain, Argentina, Australia, China, Mexico & Iran
- Group C: Serbia, Brazil, Croatia, Venezuela, New Zealand & Germany
- Group D: France, Turkey, Slovenia, Puerto Rico, Tunisia & Italy
- The welcome page also contains buttons for sound control and developer information.
- Game Controls
- Mouse
- Move your cursor to control the angle and strength of the shot.
- Left click your mouse to release the shot.
- Touchscreen
- To play on mobile you must have your phone oriented in landscape mode.
- Use your finger on the touchscreen like a mouse.
- If buttons appear black on mobile reload the game again as in some cases this would indicate the core JavaScript game files loaded before the images did.
- This game is far easier on mobile than desktop due to larger screen size, and the ability to have shooting and aiming be separate functions. On mobile you have to put your finger on the screen to aim and as soon as you lift it the ball is shot. In some cases your finger can obstruct your view of where the moving basket is.
- Game Play
- On the start of the first round the game shows the entry shot arc as well as its descent.
- After the first few shots it only shows the upshot trajectory.
- Initially the basket stays still, but as you play through the game and advance the hoop can move:
- up and down
- left and right
- or both ways (starting in the K.O. tournament competition)
- The basket is still for the first match. Then it alternates between up or down & left or right for the tournament qualification group set. And in the tournament it moves in both directions.
- Each game starts with a group series of 5 matches. You play each of your competitors in the group. A loss is worth 1 point and a win is worth 2. The 4 of the 6 teams with the highest cumulative win total advance to the knock out tournament phase. You will generally qualify for the tournament even if you lose 2 or 3 matches in the qualification group.
- You can lose multiple times in the group series and still have the game continue, though if you lose once in the K.O. tournament phase it is game over.
- This makes each shot in the tournament relatively high stakes as a single loss means you have to go through the entire qualification round again.
- Each game consists of a horse-like game where you try to make 5 shots in the basket.
- Whoever makes the most shots in the vs match wins.
- If both teams are tied at the end of 5 shots the game goes into sudden death overtime.
- If the first player makes a shot in overtime then the second player gets a chance to re-tie the game.
- Shot strategy
- In most cases it is far better to shoot a shot with high arc than a flat shot. Arc has the ball pass through the hoop from a more perpendicular angle than a flat shot would.
- Shots which are from lower positions on the screen are easier to put arc on.
- If the hoop is moving up and down and you have the ball high on the screen it is usually best to try to shoot into the hoop when it is near its apex. Shooting downward is hard, particularly since you only see the first half of the shot’s trajectory.
- The basket moves in almost every level.
- The levels are not timed, so do not shoot until you have the basket’s movement pattern down. A shot which was perfect could become an airball if you do not anticipate the hoop’s movement while your ball is in the air.
- If you find yourself consistently undershooting then shoot when the hoop is moving toward you, moving down, or both.
- If you find yourself consistently overshooting then shoot while the hoop is rising or moving away from you.
- If you make a shot where the ball bounces off the rim many times a cute Shiba Inu will come into the screen with a funny statement. This is the same dog that is on the joke cryptocurrency Dogecoin.
- Backboard vs straight in
- I have played thousands of hours of basketball (even playing against an NBA lottery pick) and if you put a lot of spin on the ball you can hit the front of the rim and frequently have the ball’s energy and spin carry it through the hoop.
- In this game in most cases hitting the front of the rim is far less forgiving, particularly as the hoop moves. It is far better to bank shots off the backboard or aim near the back of the rim rather than hitting the front of the rim.
- Audience
- This game has cute graphics & charming design, making it appealing to all ages.
- The first 5 group matches allow you to continue into the tournament even with multiple losses, so young kids who are just learning can still play and enjoy the game without much frustration.
- After the first set of 6 teams this game’s difficulty is challenging enough to offer something to all skill levels.
- This game does not have any adult imagery.
