- Objectives
- Always keep pace with your egg. The game will warn you if you stray too far from the egg.
- Pick up any collectible items you may find along the way.
- Protect your egg from all obstacles and dangers until you reach the end of the level. This is a line marked by a goal.
- Moving forward.
- The egg moves to the left by itself unless stopped by an obstacle like a wall.
- Most obstacles can be destroyed by charging or stomping.
- Some obstacles can only be removed by pressing a button.
- Hitting a green box will cause the egg to roll toward a different direction. A red version of the box will catapult the egg through the air.
- You can slow the egg down or speed it up when needed.
- Slow the egg down to avoid retracting spikes.
- Speed the egg up to have it pass through collapsing platforms fast.
- Staying safe
- The egg is imperiled along the way. As Bugongo, your job is to protect the egg from harm.
- There are various hazards strewn across the levels:
- Pits and moving platforms:
- If Bugongo or the egg falls into a pit, they die.
- If an egg moves toward a moving platform at the wrong time, it could fall into the pit.
- Slowing down the egg is the key to keeping it safe.
- Enemy creatures
- Bugongo and the egg will lose a life if they make contact with them.
- To defeat them, Bugongo must charge at them.
- The egg might also be able to defeat them when its special power is active.
- Bugongo can also stomp on her enemies.
- Spikes
- Bugongo and the eggs will lose a life if they touch spikes.
- Spikes retract. They are only safe to cross when they are retracted.
- Bugongo must slow down the egg before it reaches the spikes, then speed it up to have it cross into safety.
- Bugongo and the egg each have 3 lives.
- If either one loses all their lives, it’s game over.
- The fewer lives you lose, the higher your final score.
- Collecting items
- There are 2 items you can collect in each level.
- Golden eggs
- These are the equivalent of the stars found in our other platforming games.
- Find all of them to get the highest possible scores for each level.
- There are 3 of them in each level, hidden in and around.
- Coins
- Several coins are scattered across the level.
- Collect as many of them as you can for extra points.
- The collectible items may not all be in the path of your egg.
- To complete the level, you can wait until the egg comes to a standstill nearby.
- Explore the area around the egg. Often, you can find hidden chambers where coins and eggs are found.
- Egg power
- In some levels, the egg will gain a special power. Some of the special powers are as follows:
- Spiked egg: The egg will attack enemies and destroy metal barriers.
- Bubble egg: The egg will float and cross wider chasms. This is vital to avoiding major obstacles.
- The egg will pass by the special power. Press the space bar to activate it.
- The power is active for only a limited time. Make the most of it.
- Level 12
- Level 12 is a boss battle against a big dinosaur.
- The big dinosaur will keep dropping spiked reptiles on Bugonga and her egg.
- You must fend off all the enemies, then use the steps that form afterward to defeat the boss.
- The boss can only be charged at. Do this 3 times to win.
- Once you win, the game will show you your total score.
- Scoring
- Your score depends on the following criteria:
- Remaining lives (for both Bugongo and the egg)
- Coins collected
- Golden eggs collected
- How many enemies you killed instead of just bypassed.
- You can replay the level as many times as you want to increase your best score.
- Tips and tricks
- When something stops the egg, be sure to look around.
- You can use this time to collect all the collectibles you bypassed and to clear the path for the egg before it starts rolling again.
- You can also use this time to anticipate possible dangers like retracting spikes.
- Explore the surrounding area for hidden places.
- Sometimes, the only way to pick up all the collectibles is to stop the egg.
- Don’t stray too far from the egg. Anticipate where the next block would be so you can systematically clear the level without straying too far.
- Be prepared to play the level multiple times to find out where all the collectibles are.
- Watch your step. Some levels can become unwinnable simply because there’s no way to return to where you need to go (e.g. a switch that you can’t access anymore).
- Move fast; the egg starts moving immediately and may roll into dangerous territory early into the level.
- Choose how you fight your battles with care.
- Some enemies are better charged while many others should be stomped.
- As a rule, the shorter the distance available, the better it is to just stomp the enemy.
- Target Audience
- The game is suited for people of all ages who like simple physics puzzle games.
- This is the first game in this series.
- It is recommended to play the games in sequence as they get progressively harder.
- Bugongo Snowy Peaks adds snowballs and ice.
- Bugongo Bouncy Jungle adds bouncy platform treetops.
- The game has no adult themed content.
