City Heroes Game for Kids Video Game Play Instructions
How to Play
Shoot your way through 20 levels of robot attacks. Collect coins the robots drop to purchase weapon upgrades.
Starting the Game
Select the yellow and brown button on the center of the game’s welcome screen.
This will automatically put you into active play on the first level.
Your web browser automatically saves your game progress including beat levels, coin savings & which weapon upgrades you have purchased.
The welcome screen has the following buttons on it:
sound control in the upper right
erase game progress & read game developer information in the lower left
game medals / achievements & play other games in the lower right.
Game Controls
Desktop
Use your mouse cursor to aim & press the mouse left click button to fire. Hold in the mouse left click button to keep firing as you’ll fire faster that way than you would if you tapped it.
As you progress through the game you unlock other weapons. When they are unlocked use the following keys
A – missiles
S – grenades
D – dynamite
Touchscreen devices
Press and hold to aim and keep shooting.
After they are unlocked tap the three buttons along the bottom to use missiles, grenades, and dynamite.
Controls & indicators
Across the top of the game it shows your wall health, your coin savings, and your game score.
In the upper right corner there are buttons for sound control & pausing the game.
Any enemy you are attacking has a health bar above it with the green portion of the bar representing how much health they have remaining.
If the weapon buttons at the bottom of the screen are a solid color that means they are charged and ready for use. If a portion of a button is yellow that indicates how far along charged that weapon is.
Game Play
Levels
This game has 20 levels which are unlocked sequentially.
You can not go back and replay previously beat levels.
You get unlimited continues in this game, but if you die you lose any coins you collected during your most recent battle & your stats are reverted to what they were going into that battle.
When you beat all 20 stages the game is beat, however you can then repeatedly play the final stage to keep collecting coins until you have updated all of your weaponry.
Weapons
After they are unlocked all weapons can be upgraded using coins.
Throughout the game different aspects of your weaponry are unlocked.
At the beginning of stage 3 you unlock missiles. Missiles rain down from the sky across a broad cross section of the screen.
At the beginning of stage 6 you gain an automated fighting partner. Your fighting partner can be upgraded many times just like your main fighter.
At the beginning of stage 10 you unlock grenades. The grenade bounces along the bottom of the screen or explodes on contact with an enemy.
At the beginning of stage 12 you unlock dynamite. When you go to use dynamite a grid appears on the screen and you can choose where to lay it (even in the sky) and it will then blow up 3 seconds later.
Coins
Buying upgrades is vital to beat this game.
Collect any coins you see on the screen by hovering over them.
A table below highlights how you can upgrade your fighter, your partner fighter, missiles, dynamite & grenades.
Money spent on upgrades can not be unspent & you can not replay levels, so it is best to upgrade your core fighter and your partner first.
Fighting strategy
Hold, don’t tap
When you shoot press and hold rather than tapping.
If you tap there will be periods of time where your gun does not fire & you will fire more slowly than if you just held in the left click button to keep firing.
When you hit enemies you stun them. As long as you keep shooting enemies most enemies will not be able to shoot back at you while they are hit.
Using weapon upgrades efficiently
When a ship in the sky launches many other smaller ships it is great to use dynamite to help blow up the main ship.
If a bunch of enemies crowd the screen and overwhelm you that is a great time for a missile attack.
Upgrade strategy
It is best to focus most of your early upgrades on you and then on your partner hero since both of you will fire continuously & the other weapons are only used periodically.
When upgrading the other weapons I tend to prefer the missiles and the dynamite due to the widespread damage the former does & the precision targeting of the later.
Achievements
The game has a medals section with the following achievements on it.
Draw first blood (beat an enemy), then beat 100, 300, and 600 enemies.
Collect 200 & 500 coins.
Launch 3 missiles.
Launch 3 grenades.
Beat 7 levels & beat all 20 levels.
Target Audience
The game is suited for players who like active shooting games or base defense games.
The game has no adult themed content.
