  • Basic rules

    • The tiles move in unison. Consider this when creating a strategy to merge them.
      • As you move the tiles around, you generate even more tiles.
      • Merge them to keep the playing field clear and get you closer to your goal.
    • Keep merging the numbers for as long as you can until you reach the number 2048.
      • After making the 2048 tile, keep merging more numbers to get even higher.
      • The game ends when you run out of space to merge new numbers.
  • Scoring
    • Your points are always the sum of the numbers you merge. Each time you merge 2 and 2, you get 4 points. Merging 4 and 4 gets you 8 points, and so on.
    • Your current and best scores are shown just above the grid.
  • Strategy
    • Focus on moving in only 2 directions.
      • Often, the best direction would be down and left.
      • You want to funnel your numbers into one corner to make it easier to merge them.
      • The only time you should move anywhere else is if you can’t generate any more new tiles.
    • As much as possible, avoid moving the tiles up.
    • Avoid getting tiles out of place. Putting a high-value tile that isn’t your highest value tile in the corner will cause problems later down the line.
    • Don’t lose focus on reaching larger value tiles.
      • While keeping the game board clear is important, merely merging tiles isn’t your core goal.
      • Concentrate on creating the values needed to merge the bigger tiles rather than merging low-value ones.
