- The game starts off with a tutorial. Scalab, the bug on the right side of the screen will serve as your guide.
- They start off by guiding you through the basics of the game.
- Afterward, they will mention what each tile is like and what the new codes you choose do to your game.
- In later levels, they will also inform you of major changes in the rules.
- Basic objectives
- Despite its title, the game only shares a passing semblance to dominoes. Your task is to meet each level’s score par before you discard the last card.
- Make sure as many of the dots (pips) in each of the cards are adjacent to (connect) to one another.
- Lines will appear near the pips of each card when a connection is possible.
- Each time you lay down a card, you receive points based on the number of pips that it connects with.
- The longer the chain of connected pips, the more points you earn per turn.
- In normal circumstances, only the pips connected to the card you laid will count toward your score. These pips are activated.
- Each card you draw is random.
- You can check out your cards by selecting your draw pile.
- The level ends when you run out of tiles to lay on your deck.
- Meet or surpass the par score shown on the top left corner of the screen to clear the level.
- If you run out of cards before reaching par, you lose the game.
- The level will also end if you fill out all 25 slots in the grid.
- Each time you finish a level, you must add another card and code to your deck.
- Scoring
- Scoring is cumulative. You earn points each time you lay down a tile.
- The score you earned in one level carries over to the next one.
- Each level’s score pars are higher than the last.
- In the early game, this can mean that your score in the previous level is already enough to cover the par of the next one.
- In the late game, you’ll need the extra points from previous levels to meet par.
- Thus, you must maximize the points you earn early on to clear later levels with less difficulty.
- Special cards
- Some cards have effects that make gameplay easier or more difficult.
- Bomb cards
- These have a fuse attached to them. After a set number of turns (usually 2), they will explode.
- Anything card attached to them previously will be disconnected.
- You need a special card or code to stop them from activating.
- Rotate cards
- These let you rotate the cards that it points to.
- The affected card rotates in the direction and number of times shown.
- These can be useful when you need to connect cards that are facing the wrong direction.
- Star pip
- Stars act as multipliers. They multiply the value of any chain of the pips they are a part of. It starts off as 2x.
- The more cards with star pips you have, the higher your multiplier is.
- Magnet cards
- These push away adjacent cards they point to and activates them.
- You can pick these cards after clearing each level.
- Level types
- Standard levels have a par score. Meet the minimum number of points before you run out of pieces to win the game.
- Other levels have special rules. They don’t have par, but you must meet their arbitrary rules to clear the level.
- Make sure that your cards connect with a specified number of pips at least once.
- Connect the 2 starting cards.
- Finish the level in the allotted time.
- Some levels forbid you from peeking at your draw pile.
- Some levels have bugs or visual interference that will affect your ability to play.
- A few levels have blank cards placed in a pattern. These will obstruct your card placement.
