Elinor Backyard Life Nature Simulator Game for Kids Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • On the welcome screen, select the play button below the title of the game.

    • Using your mouse, left click to select and move items.
    • Drag items to where you want to place them.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Use your fingers like a mouse.
• Game Play
  • Setting up the habitat
    • Select items from the list to build and populate the habitat.
      • Start with sticks, rocks, and plants.
      • Introduce small animals.
    • The animals and plants featured in this habitat are typically found in North American open grassland and forest.
      • This specific environment can usually be found (and easy to recreate) in suburban backyards.
    • Open Olive’s book to find out more about the plants, animals, and other items in the habitat.
      • Select the book to the right of the selection menu to open it.
      • Each time you click on a plant, animal, or item, Olive will describe it.
      • Olive will provide up to two facts per specimen.
      • Close the book again to resume placement.
    • To add more animals, select the next button on the lower right corner of the screen.
    • You start at the ground level. Each time you finish populating a level, you can go up.
    • Keep populating the habitat until you’ve created a flourishing ecosystem from top to bottom.
      • Once you’ve completed a habitat, you can’t add any more animals.
      • Create a new habitat to unlock new animals.
      • You can save up to 3 habitats in your browser.
  • Observing the animals
    • Animals within the habitat act as they would in nature, albeit in a kid-friendly way.
    • Expect predatory animals to eat smaller animals, showcasing the circle of life.
  • Learning more
    • Open Olive’s book to learn more about the animals, plants, and objects you encounter before placing them.
    • To learn more about animals already in the environment, use the magnifying glass.
      • Unlike with the book, Olive will identify observable things about the animal or plant.
