How to Play
Create a flourishing backyard meadow ecosystem. Observe the interactions of the plants and animals that live there.
- Starting the Game
- On the welcome screen, select the play button below the title of the game.
- A cut scene will play when you open the game for the first time.
- The cutscene will not play again the next time you load the game.
- Elinor’s friend Olive will narrate the game and will serve as the game’s tutorial.
- If you’re playing for the second time, you have the option to build a new habitat or revisit an old one..
- Your local browser will automatically save your game progress.

- Using your mouse, left click to select and move items.
- Drag items to where you want to place them.

- Use your fingers like a mouse.
- Game Play
- Setting up the habitat
- Select items from the list to build and populate the habitat.
- Start with sticks, rocks, and plants.
- Introduce small animals.
- The animals and plants featured in this habitat are typically found in North American open grassland and forest.
- This specific environment can usually be found (and easy to recreate) in suburban backyards.
- Open Olive’s book to find out more about the plants, animals, and other items in the habitat.
- Select the book to the right of the selection menu to open it.
- Each time you click on a plant, animal, or item, Olive will describe it.
- Olive will provide up to two facts per specimen.
- Close the book again to resume placement.
- To add more animals, select the next button on the lower right corner of the screen.
- You start at the ground level. Each time you finish populating a level, you can go up.
- Keep populating the habitat until you’ve created a flourishing ecosystem from top to bottom.
- Once you’ve completed a habitat, you can’t add any more animals.
- Create a new habitat to unlock new animals.
- You can save up to 3 habitats in your browser.
- Observing the animals
- Animals within the habitat act as they would in nature, albeit in a kid-friendly way.
- Expect predatory animals to eat smaller animals, showcasing the circle of life.

- Open Olive’s book to learn more about the animals, plants, and objects you encounter before placing them.
