Game Play
Basics
In this game you play through the mean streets of San Francisco taking on things that would anger a hypothetical Karen.
Avoid falling off platform and either attack or evade the enemies on each stage.
Collect cash and defeat enemies to maximize your level scores.
Enemies
This game features a variety of enemies which are a mix of general nuisances or things which are deemed to skew right / Republican / nationalistic.
MAGA build the wall guy – uses his flagpole to attack. He takes 2 hits to defeat and is worth 75 points.
Police officer – shooter a taser. Takes 4 shots to destroy and is worth 75 points.
Skateboarder – moves quickly and can double, triple, or quadruple jump. The skateboarder takes 1 hit to defeat and is worth 75 points.
White cultural appropriation Rastafarian musician – attacks by swinging his guitar at you.
Asian basketball playing kid – throws a basketball at you. He takes 3 hits to defeat and is worth 100 points.
Dog – barks and bikes. It is hard to hit with your range attack due to how low to the ground it is. The dog can be defeated by 1 scream or 2 gun shots, and is worth 50 points.
Plastic straw man – shoots plastic pellets at you. Takes 3 shots to defeat and is worth 100 points.
As you advance through the game new enemies are added to the mix while the prior enemies repeatedly appear.
Levels
This game has 18 levels which are unlocked sequentially.
Some levels have a comic at the beginning of them which introdce a new enemy.
You can go back and replay previously beat levels at any point in time.
Winning vs losing
You beat a level by making it to the finish line at the far right with health remaining.
You lose if your health is depleted or you fall off platform.
This game offers unlimited continues, starting you with full health on the level you failed.
Tips
Enemy tips
Many enemies can be hit from across the screen using your range attack, as your bullet moves the full width of the screen.
Some enemies jump whenever you do, which can be useful for throwing their placement off if you do not have enough time to attack them before they attack you.
The dog is hard to hit with your range attack unless it is in midair, so you may either need to jump to get it to jump or rely on your close attack.
If an area is packed with enemies it can make sense to operate on a different vertical plane, or to pass them and then come back to pick them off one at a time, while regularly changing vertical platforms to add more time between you and the remaining platforms.
General strategy
The levels are not timed, so it makes sense to take your time between hard parts of them.
If your health is low you scan skip past some enemies. You are not required to collect all the cash and defeat all the enemies on a stage to beat the stage.
Jumping
You can shoot in the middle of a jump to have your shots hit some hard to reach areas. Opponents may move toward you as soon as they are hit.
Try not to shoot while jumping and moving horizontally or it can throw off your jump.
Some platforms allow you to jump through the bottom of them and land on them while others act more like walls or floors that can’t be jumped through. If it feels like your jump is sticking you might be caught on a wall or floor.
Some jumps require near perfect timing to make. In order to make long jumps, you need to jump once & then jump again near the apex of the first jump.
Target Audience
The game is suited for players who like simple fighting platformer games.
Karen shoots a cartoon bullet at enemies, but characters do not show blood when they are defeated.
Other than the above the game has no adult themed content.
An Evil Pretext
“He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.” – Friedrich Nietzsche
Those who fight evil by confronting it head on often end up using those justifications to adopt the methods to mirror the role of that which they claim to hate.
A person who lives a life where they consider themselves a victim may feel justified and authorized to act in self-destructive and selfish ways which harm themselves and the people around them.
Any extrajudicial retributions for one crime become the pretext for the next crime.
Everyone knows their own pain they experience, but few consider how attempts to help can often cause greater harm by further entrenching core problems (you get more of whatever you subsidize – effective solutions address systemic inputs to create the desirable outputs rather than trying to adjust outputs after the fact while ignoring inputs).
