- Scoring
- Each slice you make is worth 10 points (provided you do not hit a Sweety Pie). If you hit a Sweety Pie the slice is worth zero and costs you a heart.
- If you make multiple slices it activates a score multiplier which can make your slices worth 2x, 3x, 4x or more while it remains activated.
- The combo meter starts each level at zero.
- Within each level it keeps growing until you hit a Sweety Pie.
- When you have close call misses it boosts the bonus meter more than a regular slice would.
- If you have a near miss it adds 100 points to your score.
- Each time you slice the jelly monster the Sweety Pies change their movement pattern.
- Typically it is best to aim for near misses just after a Sweety Pie crosses your path rather than trying to race in front of them.
- You start each level with 3 hearts. Each heart you have remaining at the end of the level is worth 100 points.
- Winning vs dying
- Each time you hit a Sweety Pie you lose a heart.
- Lose 3 hearts and it is game over (though you are afforded the opportunity to continue once on the current level for coins).
- Levels are timed, with a yellow pie graph showing the remaining time.
- For the first dozen or so levels the timing does not play as an important factor as the health regeneration of the jelly monster requires a quick kill to make progress.
- Each level gets more difficult with the jelly beast requiring more hits, regenerating health quicker, being smaller, and/or having more Sweety Pies in it.
- You can see the jelly monster’s health bar to the left of the jelly monster.
- The jelly monster regenerates health.
- Beating level 1 required 6 slices and beating level 6 required 15 slices.
- Level 7 has 4 Sweety Pies in the jelly.
- From level 8 onward Orangusnake throws a smoke bomb inside the jelly beast, which activates whenever you hit it, temporarily obfuscating your vision.
- Orangusnake repeatedly throws smoke bombs, so in some cases you can have 2, 3 or 4 of them moving around inside the jelly beast at the same time.
- Buying Upgrades
- Each game you play has you earn coins equivalent to 10% of your score.
- Before you play each game there is a spin and win option you can pay coins to buy a spin on.
- Prizes include extra coins, extra heart, starting each round with a higher bonus level, or a longer level time limit.
- You can also buy a game continue using coins.
- The cost of continues and spin to win both go up as you play the game.
- Coins can be used to buy bomb, ice bomb, grapple and fan upgrades. Here is what each item does.
- Bomb: Adorabat throws a bomb which damages the enemy like another swing of the sword.
- Ice Bomb: Adorabat freezes the enemy for a brief period.
- Grapple: Bearclops grab a Sweety Pie out of the jelly monster for a short period.
- Fan: Push Bearclops blows Sweety Pies to one side of the jelly for a brief period.
- Each item can be upgraded a total of 5 times. The fee schedule for each is below.
- Bomb: 50, 150, 300, 800, & 1500
- Ice Bomb: 150, 300, 600, 1000, & 2000
- Grapple: 250, 500, 800, 1600, & 2400
- Fan: 400, 800, 1600, 2400, & 4000
- How Upgrades Work
- Any upgrade you have purchased is available via a button in the lower right corner of the game.
- Tap the upgrade to use it.
- You can use multiple upgrades in combination, for example, grapple a Sweety Pie out of the jelly and then use the fan to blow the remaining Sweety Pie to the left side of the jelly, then right as the wind ends freeze the jelly to keep the Sweety Pies on one side..
- While the freeze or fan upgrades are active sometimes you can take multiple rapid swipes in a row with little risk of hitting a Sweety Pie.
- Upgrade charging
- You start each level with each upgrade fully charged.
- When you use an upgrade it takes time to recharge.
- When you upgrade to tier 2, 3, 4 or 5 you are not buying the ability to use that upgrade concurrently multiple times but rather increasing the recharge speed of that upgrade.
- Target Audience
- The game is suited for Mao Mao fans of all ages and gamers who like slicing games.
- Early levels start off easy enough young children new to video games would still enjoy the game, but the difficulty level ramps quickly, providing plenty of challenge for older players.
- The game has no adult themed content.
