• Starting the Game
  • At the welcome screen, select the blue play button below the title page to begin the game.
  • A cutscene plays where Molly explains the premise of the game.
  • Pick which of the 3 directions you can go to catch fish. We recommend starting at the sign labeled 1.
  • Molly narrates the game and her voiceover instructions serve as the game’s tutorial.

  • Learning about fishing
    • Molly brings with her a book, Gill Nette’s Alaskan Fishing, which outlines some of the methods used to fish in Alaska.
    • Each minigame level will tackle one of three topics:
      • Fishing with a rod and reel
        • Pick the complete fish hook. A complete hook will have both hook and a lure.
      • Fishing with a fish wheel
        • Pick the complete fish wheel. A fish wheel has a net, a trough, and a base.
      • Distinguishing between salmon species
        • Striped chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta) are also known as dog salmon. They are often used by indigenous Alaskan people to feed sled dogs.
        • King or Chinook salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) is large and delicious. It is the type of salmon typically eaten by people in Alaska.
    • Each minigame is themed for a specific event:
      • Catch fish for an event at the Tribal Hall.
      • Collect a large quantity of fish to feed the sled dogs.
      • Catch fish for dinner.
      • Catch a lot of fish to store for winter.
  • Prepare to fish
    • Get Molly, Trini, and Daniel to wear the proper items (vests and boots) before fishing.
      • Select the vests and boots for the characters to put them on.
    • Pack snacks to take along.
      • Much like the vests and boots, select the berries to pack them in the bag.
  • Catching fish
    • Method 1: Rod and reel
      • Use the buttons on the left hand side to move the line up and down.
      • Left click or tap the hook if anything gets caught in it.
      • Lower the hook toward the path of the fish to catch them.
      • Once a fish is on the line, move it upward to catch them.
    • Method 2: Fish wheel
      • The fish are scooped up by the wheel and are deposited into a gutter, where they fall into a trough.
      • The gutter in the fish wheel forks, so you must move the trough to catch the fish as they fall.
      • Use the on-screen buttons or the left and right arrow keys to move the trough to either gutter.
      • Catch 3 fish in each trough. You must collect 3 troughs to win.
