Oddbods Monster Truck Challenge Game for Kids Video Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • Select the PLAY button in the bottom center of the welcome screen to bring up the theme select screen.
    • Select a theme and then pick a course to play.
    • Initially only the first theme is unlocked, but after you win a number of races it unlocks the other 3 themes.
    • Within each theme courses are unlocked sequentially.
    • Your web browser automatically saves your game progress including which levels you have beat, your fastest completion time for each course, and the associated star rating.
  • The lower left corner of the welcome screen has a SETTINGS button.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Press the X key on your keyboard to accelerate.
    • Press the Z key on your keyboard to brake.
    • Press the left arrow key to rotate counterclockwise.
    • Press the right arrow key to rotate clockwise.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Use the on-screen controls.
      • The rotate clockwise or counterclockwise buttons are in the lower left.
      • The boost (gas) and break buttons are in the lower right.
  • Controls & indicators
    • The upper left corner of the game shows your current level number and race time on the current course.
    • The upper right corner of the game has a pause button. When selected it allows you to control game music & sound volume, along with resuming play, restarting the current leve, or returning to the game’s welcome screen.

  • Basics
    • This is an obstacle course where your goal is to reach the finish line as fast as possible.
    • You can earn up to a 3-star rating on each level.
    • If you wreck you lose the level, but the game offers unlimited continues.
  • Drivers
    • Each course has a pre-assigned driver you must play it with.
      • Each vehicle has a different set of physics in terms of acceleration, top speed, and handling.
    • Vehicles
      • Zee drives a tractor which is slow, though rather stable & with plenty of torque.
      • Newt drives a slow rickshaw styled vehicle with small wheels & weak acceleration.
      • Bubbles drives a sand buggy style car with a lot of torque and quick acceleration.
      • Fuse drives a high-power red monster truck.
      • Jeff drives a deceptively fast small car which is easy to roll if you are not careful.
      • Pogo drives an ice cream truck with small wheels.
      • Slick drives an amazingly fast racecar.
  • Levels
    • This game has 4 themes: Kart Track, Beach, Desert, and Forest.
      • The Kart Track theme is unlocked when you start the game.
      • After earning at least 9 stars in the Kart Track theme you unlock the Beach theme.
      • The Desert theme requires at least 18 stars to unlock.
      • The Forest theme requires at least 28 stars to unlock.
    • Each theme has 20 courses on it.
      • Within each theme courses are unlocked sequentially.
      • You can go back and replay previously beat courses to try to earn a better rating on them.
      • The courses within each theme are unique from each other within that theme, though are fairly similar to the same as a track from another theme.
    • Star ratings
      • You earn at least 1 star for any completed course, even if it takes you a long time to beat it.
      • Finishing a course quickly earns you 3 stars.
      • When you finish a course it shows your finish time. If you scored fewer than 3 stars you know you have to finish it quicker to earn more stars.
  • Strategy
    • If you earn fewer than 3 stars on a track you can keep playing other courses and come back to it later.
    • Early levels in each course generally allow you to be aggressive with the accelerator as long as you control the angle of your vehicle, though as you get to later levels it helps to be more conservative.
    • If you find yourself unable to make a jump because you are too slow sometimes it makes sense to go slower on a prior jump so that you have more time contacting the ground to build up your speed for the next jump.
    • On most courses you generally do not need to use your brake. On a few courses you will overjump a fall near the end of the course.
      • On those tracks you need to either let off the gas a bit earlier or use the break to slow down as you approach it.
    • On some stages Oddbods or obstacles (including another platform or the top of the screen) can hinder your flight path on jumps.
      • When that happens it typically means you need to slow down going into the jump.
    • Controlling your angle is important for determining how your vehicle interacts with the course.
      • If you need to slow down quickly then sometimes a rough landing can be helpful.
      • In some cases if you are too slow near the top of a hill you can lean forward for a bit of extra acceleration.
