Phase 10

Much like Uno, Phase 10 focuses on losing the cards the fastest. To start off, you must create groups of cards called phases, organized into sets and runs. Once you complete a phase, arrange and discard your cards until you lose your entire hand.

  • Like in Gin Rummy, form sets and runs before your opponents.
  • Discard your cards faster by adding to the phases you form.
  • Be the first to complete Phase 3 and losing all your cards to win.

    • Goals
      • Finish all 3 phases before the other players.
      • If more than one player finishes all 3 phases at the same time, the player with the lowest score wins.
      • Each phase ends when one of the players loses cards.
    • Phases
      • The game is divided into rounds and phases.
        • A round is the period where a player tries to discard all their cards. It ends when a player loses all their cards in a round.
        • A phase comprises two groups of cards you must complete.
        • The first player to lose all their cards in the round proceeds to the next phase, while players who haven’t completed their phase must finish theirs in the next round.
      • Unlike the tabletop version of this game, this version of Phase 10 only has 3 phases.
      • In each phase, you must complete groups of cards called sets and runs:
        • A set is a group of cards with the same number.
        • A run is a group of numbers that go in order.
      • The number of each set or run goes up with each phase.
        • Phase 1: 2 sets if 3 cards each
        • Phase 2: 1 set of 3 cards and 1 run of 3 cards
        • Phase 3: 1 set of 4 cards and 1 run of 4 cards
    • Hitting
      • You can discard additional cards by hitting an already formed phase. This involves putting a card next to a set or a run.
        • To hit a set, simply add a number to a set made of identical numbers.
        • To hit a run, place a number on either end.
          • The number must come before the smallest number of a set or after the highest number of a set.
          • In a run comprising 7, 8, 9, and 10, you can only add a 6 or an 11.
          • You cannot add anything before a 1 or after a 12
      • You can only hit phases when you’ve formed your own.
      • You can hit both your own phase and those of your opponents.
    • Turns
      • You play the first turn against 2 computer players.
      • Each turn comprises the following moves:
        • You draw one card from the deck or the topmost card from the graveyard.
        • If possible, form the cards of your first phase.
        • If you’ve formed a phase and have the applicable cards, you can hit your own phases or those of your opponents.
        • Otherwise, discard a card you don’t need and place it in the graveyard.
    • Special cards
      • This version of the game has 2 special cards.
        • The wild card can stand in for any number. These come in handy when you need to finish a set or run.
        • The skip card forces the player of your choice to lose a turn.
      • To activate the special cards, do the following:
        • Place the wild card onto the phase area alongside the other cards.
        • Place the skip card on the graveyard. Pick a player to skip.
    • Tie breakers
      • If more than 1 player reaches phase 3 at the end of the game, the winner is determined by the number of points.
        • Cards numbered 1 to 9 are worth 5 points.
        • Cards numbered 10 to 12 are worth 10 points.
        • Skips are worth 15 points.
        • Wild cards are worth 25 post.
      • The player with the lowest number of points wins.
  • Target Audience
    • The game is suited for people of all ages who like card games.
    • The game has no adult themed content.
