- Basic rules
- The game is played on an 8 x 8 board whose squares come in alternating colors. These are labeled in numbers (vertical) and letters (horizontal).
- The white player always goes first.
- The object of chess is to capture the enemy king.
- To win, you must put your pieces in a position where the enemy king can be captured.
- Likewise, you must prevent your king from getting captured in turn.
- Chess games can end in the following ways:
- In many cases, a game ends with a checkmate. This is when you or your opponent cannot make any mores that won’t result in the king being in danger of capture.
- Alternately, you can reach a stalemate where neither player can make any move that will lead to their victory or defeat.
- If your king is in any immediate danger of being captured, you are in check and must move the king away.
- Game features
- Each time you select a piece, the game highlights all the moves it can make in yellow.
- The cumulative amount of time it takes for you to make a move is cataloged on the timer.
- The timer also notes the last piece you’ve moved.
- The usual icons for the King and Queen are switched in this game. Remember, the queen always takes its color.
