Scoobtober Trick or Treat Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • Click on the green button on the lower left of the welcome screen to begin the game.
    • You start off with a brief summary of the game’s premise. 
    • The next page gives a brief summary of the game’s mechanics.
    • After this, the first level begins. You will only see the lore for the game once.
  • You can view your current rank and your last high score on the lower left corner of the screen.
    • Your web browser automatically stores your previous high score.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Use the left and right arrow keys to move.
    • Use the spacebar to jump
    • To pause the game, click on the pause button on the upper right corner of the screen.
    • You can access the game’s instructions by clicking the question mark button on the pause menu.
• Game Play
  • Your goal is to collect all the pieces of Halloween candy thrown out of the houses.
    • Walk Scooby toward the path of a piece of candy before it falls to the ground.
    • The game ends if Scooby misses even one piece of candy.
    • It also ends when Scooby fails to dodge the path of a ghost.
  • You clear a level when you’ve collected all of the candy from a single house.
    • Each house drops a specific number of candy pieces, indicated on the upper left corner.
    • The size of the house determines how many candy pieces they will throw. Big houses throw 15 to 20 pieces. Smaller houses throw 10.
    • Once you finish collecting all the candy in one house, walk toward the next one.
    • Each piece of candy is worth one point.
      • On occasion, the house will drop Scooby Snacks. It will double the points you earn for a brief period.
      • Scooby Snacks will also make Scooby briefly immune to ghosts.
      • Collecting Scooby Snacks does not add to your score. 
  • Avoid ghosts and bats.
    • These enemies appear at random. 
    • Some will fly while others will walk toward you. 
      • The basic flying ghost is easy to avoid.
      • The bat flies up and down. Anticipate when it will go down and move away to avoid it.
      • The phantom, which moves on the ground, is the hardest to dodge. You must jump at the right time to avoid it.
      • Ghosts can make it difficult impossible to reach falling treats in time. 
  • Ranks
    • You gain a rank with every score milestone you make.
    • All players begin with a rank of Rookie.
    • The game shows the highest rank you attained at the welcome screen.
• Strategy
  • For a simple collection game, this is remarkably difficult.
    • Missing one bit of candy leads to a game over.
    • Dodging some of the ghosts is difficult.
  • Jump to get nearby candy faster.
  • Anticipate where the ghosts might move before dodging them.
