- Play advice
- In this game you often have to freeze your position so that you control the return path to run into other enemies.
- Keep clear the difference between resetting the level and freeze framing Grim Reaper’s position.
- If you hit the wrong key it can be quite frustrating.
- Sometimes you need to use monsters as temporary platforms that you walk on with another monster to reach higher platforms.
- This may require you take control of an out of the way monster before going in the direction you actually want to travel by jumping on a second monster as a temporary ledge.
- Some hard to reach monsters require you make a circuitous path to reach, freeze framing yourself in one section of the screen and then having another monster die in another location.
- Boxes
- When monsters self destruct they destroy any box they are standing next to.
- Sometimes you need monsters to destroy boxes to clear a path.
- Other times you need to push boxes into position to enable jumps to higher platforms.
- The Grim Reaper can die if he steps on spikes or runs into the mighty dragon.
- Difference between this game & the original
- In the original game the Grim Reaper was rather weak.
- He could not jump and he could not interact with items in the level.
- All he could do was take the form of another body and then behave as them.
- In this game the Grim Reaper can act just like any other character with 3 exceptions:
- If you bump into another character you become them.
- Whenever you die as another character the spirit tries to return to Grim Reaper.
- Starting on level 6 (when the green monsters first appear) you can freeze from the Grim Reaper’s location before assuming the role of another character.
- Other character differences
- In the original game all you had to do is pass through the outline of a soul to assume the soul, whereas in this game you need to destroy the characters.
- In the first 5 stages you have to walk each of the humans onto spikes.
- On the monster stages you can use the self destruct action buttons to destroy them.
- On the final level you must use the monster self-destruct feature while standing next to the green dragon 3 times to beat the dragon.
- Some characters are in hard to reach places, which require you to destroy other characters in specific positions and/or freeze frame the Grim Reaper’s position before assuming another character.
- Levels & endings
- The original game was linear with 15 levels.
- This game has 20 levels. The 19th level has two different exit portals & you only get to access the 20th stage with the green dragon if you access the correct portal exit on level 19.
- Spoilers
- On level 19 to get the enemy in the box near the top of the level you have to do a freeze from jump as the Grim Reaper on the left edge of the screen, then die as one of the monsters in the upper right. As Grim Reaper’s soul travels across the screen it hits the monster in the box on its path.
- If you beat level 19 the conventional way going through the first portal exit that is the end of the game. To get the portal exit to level 20 to fall from the ceiling you need to blow up the 3 crates to the upper right & then exit through the second portal which fell from the ceiling.
- On level 20 you have to use the boxes on either side of the dragon that are slightly higher to be able to reach the monster at the top center. What you do is go as high as you can on either box, jump up & freeze frame, then go down and around under the dinosaur and up to the box on the opposite side, jump, then send your soul back to the freeze frame position and it will catch the monster in the top center.
- If you hit the dragon with Grim Reaper on level 20 you lose. Destroying the dragon on level 20 requires you to use the self destruct feature on each of the 3 monsters while they are standing next to the dragon.
- Target Audience
- The game is suited for players who like level escape platformers and games with vintage graphics.
- While the game has Grim Reaper and mentions souls, it does not show any blood or gore when you shape shift.
- This game is a sequel. We recommend playing the original Soul Hunter first, as this game builds off of concepts in the original & is more difficult.
- The game has no adult themed content.
