Grand Sand Fortress is a fun online Tetris-type base defense game where you build a wall for SpongeBob to protect him from the evil Planktons. They think SpongeBob has the Krabby Patty formula. Does he? Doesn’t matter. They are coming in waves for him, regardless.
- Move your bricks to build a wall.
- The wall needs to be strong enough to withstand waves of attacks from the Plankton.
- Plankton can also fly in on paper planes. Who knew.

- Building a wall
- Ideally, you want to form a solid wall with no gaps. Spin the falling shapes to fit them together.
- It is ok to leave gaps provided your reason for doing so is it helps you build a 2 by 2 shape of the same building material.
- It’s unlikely you’ll have time to build a complete wall. Build the biggest wall you can in the time available.
- Not all blocks are equal. Sand is strong. Stone is stronger. Brick is the strongest.
- Don’t wait for the bricks to fall. Once you have them aligned, force them down into place with the down arrow. This will buy you more bricks within your time limit.
- You can extend your build time limit by creating a four block shape of the same type in a 2 by 2 grid.
- The 2 by 2 grid must use the same type of building material in all 4 squares.
- Stronger materials add far more time to your remaining build time.
- See the instructions for examples.
- Don’t let your wall get too high, too early. You will find it difficult or impossible to build a solid low level defense & to maneuver pieces to make 2 by 2 squares which give you extra build time.
- The indicator on the top right will show you the next shape that will fall.
- Defense strategy
- How attack waves change
- As the levels increase, the waves of Plankton will not only mount a ground attack, they will fly at you, too. Be sure to build high as well as wide to defeat them.
- In earlier rounds, where there are no flying Plankton, you can focus on defeating a ground attack by building across the bottom.
- The castle indicator on the right side of the screen shows you how many lives you have left.
- Weak defenses will cost you lives.
- When you lose a life you still advance to the next level provided you had at least 2 lives remaining before failing the level.
- The lives count includes the existing game, so when there is only 1 castle to the right that is your last life.
- The attack indicator on the left shows you how long the current attack wave will last.
- You do not need to make a complete defense across the entire width of the playing field.
- To advance to the next round all you need to do is have at least one square remaining when the attack wave is done.
- The best way to have squares remaining is to quickly drop pieces into the playing field and try to make the squares which give you more time to lay more pieces.
- If you drop a piece which has 2 of the same material next to each other try to ensure both of those pieces either face upward or toward the inner portion of the level so it is easy to match other pieces next to it.
