Spongebob Squarepants Monster Island Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • Click anywhere on the screen to start.
    • A short animation at the beginning of each round will introduce each episode.
  • The game has 5 episodes. You can play any episode from the episode select screen in any order.
• Game Controls
  • The mouse controls the movement of the characters.
  • The space bar throws gems at monsters if you have them. This slows down monsters.
  • The pause button at the top right of the screen gives access to the menu.
    • The play button returns you to the game.
    • The ? button shows you the instructions.
    • The speaker button toggles the sound off and on.
    • The X button will restart the game.
• Game Play
  • Each episode leads to a finale, where you rescue Patrick from a mysterious cave.
  • The first episode sees SpongeBob running across a beach, having been marooned on a desert island. He must avoid rocks, which will slow him down, and monsters, which try to eat him.
  • Collect crystals. These perform different functions in each episode. In the first, they slow down the monster. In other episodes, they will vaporize monsters. The instructions at the beginning of each round will explain their function.
  • As you finish each round, you can progress to the next.
    • Episode One: avoid the rocks, avoid the pursuing monster.
    • Episode Two: you get given a staff. This means you can ride monsters. Ride the monster, avoid the various hazards and collect gems. You can make use of a double jump in this episode by tapping the space bar multiple times. The energy level will show in the green eye towards the top of the screen. Use too much energy and you won’t be able jump for a little while until it replenishes.
    • Episode Three: Ride the serpent down the river. Avoid the various water hazards and collect gems. Gems will blow up the river-dwelling monsters.
    • Episode Four: Ride the snail up the hill. Avoid the various hazards and collect gems. Use your power-ups to slam through the spiky creatures. Avoid the bouncing rocks.
    • Episode Five: Ride the cave monster. Collect gems. Smash through the stalagmites and stalactites by tapping the space bar.
      • Stay ahead of the Indianna-Jones style boulder that is following hard on your heels.
      • If you pass this level, you will come across Patrick. We won’t spoil the end, but they both exit the cave in epic Spongebob style.
