Steven Universe Beach City Drifters Game for Kids Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • When the game loads, a cutscene plays at the start. Select the skip button to proceed to the welcome screen.
  • On the welcome screen, select the play button on the lower right corner.
  • Toggle the game’s audio via the sound button on the upper right corner.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Use the arrow keys to steer.
    • Brake using the space bar.
    • Left click with your mouse to get past cutscenes.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Although this game might load on some touchscreen devices, its controls were optimized for desktop computers with keyboards.
• Game Play
  • Level selection
    • Levels are unlocked in order.
      • At the start of the game, only the first level is available.
      • To unlock the next level, you must win the current one.
      • When you beat a level the bottom of the screen may show an exclamation point, indicating you have enough coins saved to buy another vehicle.
    • There are 13 levels in total, representing a total of 39 potential coins you can earn.
  • Basic controls
    • Your car will move forward by itself.
    • Steer through the turns and avoid hazards.
    • Collect stars.
  • Race against the clock
    • You have 60 seconds to finish the entire track.
    • Hitting any obstacles will either add a time penalty to your run or end the race prematurely.
      • Hitting course walls will slow you down.
      • Hitting traffic cones will slow you down & prevent you from getting the coin for driving the course without hitting any cones.
      • Hitting a construction zone will end the race.
  • Avoiding obstacles
    • Steer away from the obstacles on screen.
    • In addition to the course walls slowing you down, there are two main types of obstacle:
      • Traffic cones will not stop you from moving but add to your penalty.
      • Road construction will stop you at your tracks. You will end up starting the race all over again.
    • Each obstacle you hit comes with a time penalty.
  • Coins
    • Win coins for every milestone you achieve in each level:
      • Finish on time
      • Minimize collisions
      • Collect all the stars in the level
    • Coins can be won together or independently.
      • You can drive a perfect course and get all 3 stars at once.
      • You can also run a clean no-wreck race on course #2 to unlock that coin & then later run a race on course #2 where you collect all the stars.
    • You can collect up to 39 coins across all 13 levels.
    • Use your coins to unlock other vehicles.
  • Playable racers:
    • You can play as any of the following racers:
      • Stevonnie is the default vehicle unlocked at the beginning.
      • Greg Universe’s van is unlockable at 1 coin.
      • Buck Dewey drives the Mayor’s Van, which is unlockable at 3 coins.
      • Jenny Pizza drives a 1985 Cabriolet which is unlockable at 5 coins.
      • Kevin drives a Himitsu X-12 which is unlockable at 9 coins.
    • Once unlocked, you can print out the cars as paper cutouts via the print button on the lower left corner.
      • For your convenience all the print outs are linked to in the above section.
    • Coins spent on one purchase can not be applied to the next.
      • If you had 8 coins and purchased Greg & Buck unlocks you would have 4 coins left & would need to earn more coins to unlock Jenny Pizza or Kevin.
  • Car driving
    • The game itself starts off slower, or on a less steep grade in early levels, then speeds up as you go through the 13 levels.
      • You’ll likely need to use the break often in later levels if you are trying to collect all the stars or get the clean race award.
    • Driving vs drifting
      • On the first level with the first car it is quite basic where you steer where you want to go & likely do not need to use the break.
      • On levels near the end of the game you drift aggressive slides through many corners.
        • When finishing a drift around a corner it helps to press the opposite direction arrow you were using through most of the corner to snap the rear end of the car into position.
    • Each car has its own unique physics.
      • Kevin’s car has tighter controls and faster acceleration, but can sometimes oversteer if you are used to driving one of the other vehicles.
      • Jenny Pizza offers a great mix of controllable handling, speed, & acceleration.
