- Game Play
- Levels
- The game has 16 levels.
- Early in levels you have swarms of weaker opponents & then an end boss on the final wave.
- The first level is the only level without an end boss.
- As you get further into the game there is also a boss on the third wave in addition to on the final wave.
- The final level has multiple bosses on most of the waves after the first one.
- As you advance through the game some waves have 2 to 4 bosses which appear on the same wave.
- Enemy Types
- Some enemies move faster than others & some are stronger than others.
- Enemies do not attack your towers but instead attack the castle at the end of the level if they are able to make it past all your towers.
- Every level other than the first level has at least one boss.
- Boss battles have bosses which may spawn other minion to help them fight you.
- The tree boss also regenerates its health.
- Towers
- Arrow – The archery tower has solid range and speed, but does limited damage per hit and quickly hits one enemy at a time.
- Cannon – not a lot of range, but does a great job of hitting many enemies at once. Each individual shot is slow, but does a good amount of damage to all nearby enemies.
- Freezing – Does damage and slows down enemies.
- Fire – Similar to the Arrow tower, but does a lot more damage.
- Lightning – Does damage to many enemies at once. Is similar to the Cannon tower, but fires much faster and does more damage.
- Spells
- As you progress through the games you unlock spells. Each spell has a unique function & recharge cycle.
- Ice field – low damage but strong slowing effect on enemies in an area.
- Fire – strong magic spells which inflicts high-power burns over a small area.
- Poison Clouds – pours poisonous rain over an area which does damage to enemies over time.
- In some cases the spell boxes and the info boxes near them cover over the top of the enemy path, which can be quite annoying & require getting used to. When the spell box is full charged and is highlighted in yellow you can use the magic.
- Ratings
- You can score up to a 3-star rating on each of the 16 levels.
- Your star rating is based on how much health the castle has remaining when you beat the level.
- If the castle has full health you get 3 stars.
- If you score less than 3 stars
- Strategy
- Multiple enemy paths
- If enemies come from multiple directions it makes sense to place high powered towers where you can hit enemies coming from either direction.
- If there are multiple paths and one is far shorter than the other then it typically makes sense to build on the shorter path first.
- If you are on a level where the screen scrolls it helps to focus on the part of the level where the shorter path is in focus and the magic boxes are not in the way of viewing that path.
- Tower strategy
- Catapults are great to use near level entrances to do damage to large swarms of enemies and thin the herd.
- If you can build multiple towers near each other it is helpful to build a freezing tower near higher powered fire or lightning towers which do more.
- Early in the game I like to build an archery tower near the end to catch any stray enemies which make it to the castle, though in later levels it might make more sense to place a lightning or fire tower.
- If you are on the final wave and the boss has already made it deep into the level you can sell off earlier towers to upgrade towers near the end of the level or build more towers near the end of the level.
- On the final level it helps to build 2 Cannon towers early, then after that focus building fire towers everywhere else & upgrade them. Build the Fire towers where paths overlap and closer to the castle first and then build them elsewhere. You can also get rid of the earlier placed cannons and replace those with more Fire towers.
- Target Audience
- Players of all ages who like castle defense games should like this game.
