How to Play Tripeaks Solitaire

Click on a card on the bottom row of the pyramids that is one card above or below the card on your stack. The stack is known as the waste pile. When you can’t add any more cards, because the values aren’t one above or below your card, then click the yellow arrow to pull another card from the deck

  • Starting the Game
    • Click on the yellow play button with the arrow in the center of the game’s welcome screen.
      • This will display the rules. Advance through the rules, if required, else press the yellow play button to start.
    • The welcome screen has three additional buttons across the top
      • Top left: sound & enlarge screen.
      • Top right: rules, restart game & exit game.
  • How To Play Pyramid Solitaire
    • Game goal: remove all the cards from the 3 pyramids.
      • The pyramid and waste pile locations are illustrated in the images below.
      • A total of 28 cards are organized in the pyramids while the other 24 cards in the deck are in the reserve you can draw upon to make new card matches for the discard pile.
      • Pyramids are 4 rows high with the center pyramid sharing 1 card in the bottom row with each of the side pyramids.
    • You can move a card from a pyramid to the pile on the bottom right, known as your waste pile, by clicking on it.
      • The card must rank one higher, or one lower than the top card on the waste pile.
        • For example, if there’s a 3 showing on the waste pile, you can move a 2 or a 4 card.
      • You can only remove cards which do not have any cards laying beneath them & covering part of their surface.
        • Cards which have a portion of their surface covered are shown face down until you remove the cards directly beneath them.
    • If you can’t see a card that is one above or below your card, then hit the yellow arrow button to deal a new card.
    • Suit and suit color are not relevant. The card only need be sequentially higher or lower in face value than the card atop the waste pile.
      • The face cards have values of 13 for the king, 12 for the queen, and 11 for the jack.
      • The other cards are their numerical value shown on the card face.
      • The ace and king cards wrap around, allowing you to go from 2 to ace to king, or king to ace to 2.
  • Scoring
    • You win the game by moving all cards from all three peaks to the waste before the timer runs down.
    • When you can’t move any cards from the peaks and you have no more cards left in the stack, you lose the game. If the timer runs out, you lose the game.
    • The score is based on the number of cards left on the tableau at the end. You win by having no cards left from the pyramids.
      • Each individual card you remove from the plateau is worth 5 points, except for the final card in each row. The 5 points is not given for the last card in each row & instead each completed row is worth a different set of points.
        • Bottom row: 100 points
        • Third row: 150 points
        • Second row: 250 points
        • Top row: 500 points
      • You can score up to 1000 points for completing rows and 120 points for individual card removals.
      • The time bonus is added to your card score. It starts at 999 and counts down 1 point per second.
  • Strategy
    • If a pyramid has three of the same rank on it (e.g. three fives), try to get rid of them as quickly as you can.
      • For example, if you turn up a 4 on the waste pile and there are a 3, 2, ace and king showing, it can still make more sense to go up and remove a 5, especially if there is a 6 showing and you can remove a 5-6-5 combo.
    • If you know all 5 cards have already been played & none remain on the tableau or in reserve it could likewise make sense to immediately go after the 4 if you turn up a 3.
    • Try to remove the pyramids evenly on both sides.
      • If you have a single line of cards five-deep it means you need to flip five specific cards in order to win.
    • If you are fairly certain winning a hand will be impossible you can go for making the longest streaks possible.
  • Tri Peaks Trivia
    • Robert Hogue invented the game in 1989.
    • Mr. Hogue intended players to be able to configure the game using many different layout formats & calculated over 90% of hands are winnable in the original version of the game.
    • This game became popular after a version of it was shipped with Microsoft Windows. Unlike the Microsoft Solitaire pack version, our version of the game does not have an undo button.
