- Stone matching
- Identical
- Stones must be identical to match. The shape, pose, color, hue, and orientation must be identical.
- When you select a stone it is highlighted with an outline. If the next stone is not an identical match the first stone is deselected.
- If you are having trouble distinguishing between similar bugs try to work on vastly different bugs first to help open up the field & then circle back to the bugs where the colors and poses are quite similar.
- Line drawing
- When you select identical stones the game tries to draw a line between them. The line must not pass through any other stones. In addition the line must be one of the following:
- horizontal
- vertical
- a combination of horizontal & vertical with no more than 2 right angle turns
- You can pair off additional sets of stones while the connecting lines are being drawn on the prior set or a prior butterfly is flying across the screen.
- Levels
- This game has 60 levels which are unlocked sequentially.
- You can’t go back and replay previously beat levels without starting the game over at the first level.
- Board layout
- Each level has a unique board layout.
- The first stage has a 2×3 grid of 6 stones with 3 insect pairs on it.
- As you advance through the game the levels grow more complex and have more stones in a broad range of board layout designs.
- Eventually some levels have repeat matches on them, where there can be 4 or 6 stones of one type of inset.
- These stones can be paired off in any order.
- Level timers
- Early levels gives you 29 seconds each to beat them.
- As you advance through the game and the boards grow more complex with more tiles your level time limit expands.
- For example, on level 6 you get 51 seconds to remove 26 tiles, or 13 tile pairs.
- You beat levels by clearing them of stones before the timer runs out.
- If the timer runs out you lose the level, at which point you can either try again or end the game.
- If you try again you can replay the level you lost an unlimited number of times.
- If you end game you can submit your game score, but selecting the end game button erases your gameplay data beyond being able to submit your score.
- Autoshuffle
- If no valid matches are shown the game automatically shuffles the remaining tiles to create at least one valid pair.
- This means there is always at least one valid match available.
- Automated shuffles do not cost you points.
- Scoring
- Your game score is cumulative across levels.
- Scoring points
- Each tile pair you make is worth 100 points.
- Chain bonus
- If you remove pairs of stones in rapid succession you activate a chain bonus.
- The chain bonus starts at 30, then if you keep the chain going it goes up to 60, 100, 150, 210, 280, 360, 450, 550, 660, 780, 910, 1,050, etc.
- You earn 30 points for each second remaining on the timer when a level is beat.
- Spending points
- Shuffling tiles costs 250 points.
- Taking hits costs 250 points.
- Strategy to earn a high score
- The key to earning a high score in this game is to try to beat each level while using a singular chain of moves.
- You can map out your second and third moves before making your first move so you get a good bit of progress on your chain right out of the gate.
- To keep chain moves going you can try to make some more distant matches so they take longer to connect and give you more time to make other matches.
- If you fail to make a chain on a level you can refresh the browser window to replay that level until you complete a chain.
- Relative to missing a chain bonus hints and shuffles are cheap, so use them swiftly if needed.
- The level timer is not too challenging on early levels, but can become moreso toward the end of the game.
- Target Audience
- The game is suited for players who like Mahjong Connect tile match games.
- The game has no adult themed content.
