Clarence Scared Silly RPG Game for Kids Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • The game begins with a long cut animated cut scene establishing the premise of the game.
    • Press the fast forward button to skip the cut scene.
  • Select the play button on the lower right corner of the welcome screen to begin.
  • Toggle the audio by selecting the music button on the upper right corner.
  • Select the home button to return to the welcome page.
    • In game, select the card button to go back to the level selection menu.
  • Your browser automatically saves the levels you’ve unlocked.
    • For this being a turn-based RPG it is almost a mini-RPG. Battles are easy once you get the logic down as all enemies die on a single hit. It is a quite fun game, though something you could beat in an hour.

  • Level selection
    • The level selection screen takes on the appearance of a clipboard.
      • The levels represent pieces of a map.
      • At first, only one part of the map is visible. Unlock the next level by retrieving the map.
      • Click on each map piece to play the level.
      • The first level begins with two signs describing the controls of the game.
      • You can go back and replay previously beat levels.
  • Basics
    • Travel down the park and collect the map pieces to move to the next level.
    • You can only walk 1 square at a time.
    • To attack enemies or obstructions, simply walk in that direction. Jeff will attack automatically. Attacking counts as a turn-based move.
    • Smashing obstructions can reveal floor squares that act as switches.
      • To activate the switch, step on it.
    • You win the level by collecting the next fragment of the map.
  • Defeating enemies
    • Jeff is a cowardly child. Contact with any scary object will have you start the level all over again.
    • Scary things come in two flavors, stationary and mobile.
    • Mobile enemies move one tile at a time.
      • If you’re one square away from them and they move you get caught and start the level over again.
      • You can attack them once they’re 1 square away from you. If the square you are turning on turns to a red X you can attack on your next turn, but if you step onto a red X it will be game over.
      • Time your movements with care.
        • Make sure you move in a way that allows you to attack them before they attack you.
        • Sometimes, the key is to attack one in place, then let the others come within striking distance.
        • Another valuable strategy is to leave things to hit like gravestones, so that you can spend a turn not moving while the enemy approaches closer to you & then you can hit them.
        • Some enemies move every turn while other enemies allow you to move quickly twice in a turn. Balloons only move while inflated.
        • Some enemies can move in any direction while other enemies like pumpkins can only move the direction they are facing and have to burn a turn to change directions.
        • Sometimes you can have the enemies hit themselves by running over zombie hands.
        • Further into the game enemies may attack from multiple directions at the same time. Deciding which enemy to attack first can be crucial.
    • Stationary enemies do not move, but they follow similar triggers.
      • They take the form of tile that puts out a zombie hand in a three-step cycle.
      • They follow a cycle, triggered by your movement.
        • A blank tile is safe to step on.
          • The moment you step on a previously brown tile, it glows green.
          • If a tile previously had a paper hand in it, it becomes safe to step on in your next turn as the hand retracts.
        • A tile with a green glow is a warning.
          • If the tile goes green when you’re already on it, you’re safe.
          • If a tile is already green, do not step on it.
          • Stepping forward will activate the hand. If you touch this, it’s game over.
        • After the paper hand appears, it turns brown when you step on it.
      • Time your movement so you only step on safe tiles during your entire crossing.
  • Switches and obstacles
    • Sometimes, your paths are blocked by spikes. To lower them, you must activate tiles disguised as switches
    • Some squares retract spikes, while others summon enemies.
    • If you’ve already retracted all the spikes you need to proceed, ignore any remaining switches.
