Chess Mania Game for Kids Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • Select the yellow-orange button on the game’s welcome screen to start the game.
    • This will bring up the level select screen.
    • You must beat each level sequentially to unlock the next level.
    • Your web browser automatically saves your game progress.
  • The welcome screen has a full screen mode button in the upper right corner and buttons to control sounds and read gameplay info underneath the start button.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • Use your mouse left click to select a piece.
      • The background of the piece will turn green and dots will highlight where you can move the piece to.
      • If you have already selected and moved a piece the dots where you can move it to will appear red for the moves you already tried to make.
    • Click on a blue dot to move the piece to that location.
      • If the move is incorrect the piece will move back and the square will turn red.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Tap the screen with your finger to select pieces and move them.
  • The game has a pause button in the upper right corner which brings up a menu offering sound control, full screen mode, game information, undo move, go to game home, or resume play.
• Game Play
  • Levels
    • At the beginning of each level it shows you the difficulty level for that stage along with how many moves you have to mate in, or what the goal of that level is (e.g. find the best move).
    • The game has 400 levels.
      • You must beat each level to unlock the next level.
      • You can replay any of the previously beat levels by selecting them from the game’s welcome screen.
  • Strategy
    • Ordinary chess movement rules apply.
    • If you make a move which is not correct your piece is set back to the original location and the move does not count against you.
      • The game will not allow you to make invalid moves & it also will not allow you to make valid moves that do not advance the board toward the goal in the required move count.
    • If you are stuck click on the hint button at the bottom of the screen and it will highlight which piece you need to move (though it will not tell you which square to move it to).
      • There is a one-minute timer in between hints.
