Building the System
Basics
Place fish in the tank.
Grow as many plants as you need to meet the level’s quota.
Set up a system of pipes to grow the plants you need.
Turn the system on and feed the fish.
Harvest the plants once they’re big enough.
Interface
The pipes and fish are available on the left side of the screen.
The section with the pipes can scroll up and down. You’ve a lot of pipes to work with.
Right below the pipes is a section dedicated to fish.
The aquaponic system occupies a grid on the right side of the screen.
Building tips
If you want to remove something, select and drag it back to the left side of the screen away from the grid.
Make sure everything is connected to the pipes that lead to the fish tank.
You don’t need to make anything too fancy unless you want to finish the level really fast.
Laying just enough plants to span the two pipes is enough.
Keep the system balanced. Don’t put too many fish in the fish tank.
Feeding the Fidgits
With your mouse or fingers, move the Fidgit around to catch all the vegetables that fall.
Eat as many of the vegetables as you can.
The number of vegetables that fall is equal to the amount you grew in the level.
Growing plants in water
The system shown in this game is based on the real-world technology called aquaponics. This is itself based on hydroponics, a system that lets farmers grow plants without any soil.
Aquaponics uses a system of pipes to grow plants and raise fish at the same time.
Fish are kept in a tank, where they are fed and taken care off.
The poop sinks down and is taken away from their tank into the pipes.
The pipes flow through the plants. The poop acts as all-natural fertilizer, providing nutrition for the plants.
The plants remove the poop in the water, acting as a filter.
People can eat both the plants and the fish. An aquaponic farm can make more food than a regular farm of the same size.
Using plants as filters is an excellent way to clean water. People who keep pet fish find that growing a lot of plants (be they houseplants, aquatic plants, or seaweed) in their aquariums is a great way to deal with fish poop.
