Basic rules
Fling the mermaid to rescue the prince.
The mermaid is affected by 2 things: the urchin and the dotted line
Hitting the dotted line allows you to rise up. However, if you follow the dotted line too much, you will miss the prince.
Hitting outside the dotted line will bring you closer to the urchin. If you touch the urchin, you die.
Some levels have several circles of dotted lines and several urchins.
Aim with care to bring the mermaid to the prince.
You must travel along the the dotted line enough to avoid crashing into the urchin.
You must be low enough for the urchin to bring you to the prince and avoid floating off.
When you reach the prince, you’ve saved him. Yay!
Lives
You fail when you move offscreen or hit the urchin.
You instantly restart if you lose a life. Keep trying again.
Levels
Levels are unlocked in sequence.
You start with only one level unlocked.
Finish one level to unlock the next.
There are 20 levels in the game.
You can replay any of the levels you’ve already unlocked.
Tips
You only control your swim angle, and do not control the force with which you swim.
Your swim force is determined only by the angle you start at & how the urchins pull on you.
The dashed lines show where the urchin forces kick in for each urchin & the relative strength of the pull of each urchin.
Whichever urchin you are closest to will typically have the strongest pull force.
The urchin circles you are inside off the start of your swim will have an immediate impact on your swim angle.
The urchin you are closest to will have the biggest impact on your initial swim angle.
The urchin circle you are in the longest will have the longest-lasting impact on adjusting your swim angle throughout the rest of your swim.
As multiple different objects pull you with a gravitational-type force they play off each other.
On some levels it is best to go high, while on other levels it is best to go low.
In some cases you need to adjust the first to be further off target to have the second pull you into the correct path.
You can see when a force is kicking in when a dashed line connects you to the urchin.
You can also see when a force is about to kick in when the dashed circle border is highlighted in green.
Some levels are complex and the best approach may require you to take multiple loops to reach the target destination.
The background image moves slightly, but the dotted circles do not.
So long as you grab from the same location on the mermaid you can use points on the dashed circle lines to help you guide and adjust your swim angle.
Target Audience
The game is suited for players who are lost romantics or like simple physics games.
The mermaid hitting the urchin has a death animation that depicts her corpse and ghost separating. There is no gore, however.
Other than that, the game has no adult themed content.
Splash
This game was likely inspired by the 1984 Ron Howard directed fantasy romance comedy Splash, where a mermaid named Madison saved Allen from drowning.
