How to Play

This is a base defense strategy game where you fight off waves of alien attackers.

  • Shooting is automatic, but you must manage the size and status of your fleet.
  • On the right side of the screen there are buttons to use power ups like bombs, freezing enemies and a defense shield. Generally if you manage your fleet well you should not need these until you are deep into a game. Generally if a level starts poorly it is best to use these power ups early in the level rather than later into the level.
    • Bombs: Allows you to blow up the enemies near a particular portion of the screen.
    • Freeze: Causes the enemies to pause without shooting for a period of time.
    • Mines: Allows you to set mines on the screen where enemies will blow up if they hit them. The first click pulls up a grid and the second click allows you to set the blue mines.
    • Defense: makes your characters harder to hit.
  • As you collect coins spend them to add more ships to your fleet. Each time you buy a ship in any given class it gets more expensive. The shopping cart is in the lower right corner of the game.
  • If a ship runs out of power it does not die, but rather goes to the base for repairs – provided the base has an open space for it to be repaired. If the base does not have any open spaces then the ship does die!
  • If your ships are nearly out of power you can put them in the base for repairs. Click on a ship to bring it back to the base.
  • When ships are full power they do not automatically return to the playing field, so you have to click on them and drag them out to bring them back into the game.
  • You should always keep at least one base slot open at all times so you can get presents, which typically contain ships though may contain other power ups.
  • You can merge two ships together to create a more powerful ship. Drag one ship onto the next to merge them.
  • If you have too many ships on the screen to make sense of then it helps to keep merging them into more powerful ships at the base.
  • You start the game with 5 hearts and each time aliens cross the line you lose one of the 5 hearts. When you have less than 5 hearts some of the presents you are given in the game will be more hearts.
  • This game has well over 100 levels. There is a pause button in the upper right corner of the game.
  • Your game progress is stored in your local web browser.

Advanced Frontline Playing Tips

Most of the games in our collection do not have an advanced playing tips section BUT this was the favorite game in the collection for our founder and he spent many hours playing it. So while he is writing in third person he would like to share the following hard won strategic tips 😀

  • Use gems for ship upgrades: Gems can be used to buy power ups like bombs and freezing or to unlock ships. It is almost always better to use gems to unlock new ship classes.
  • Buy the best ship: As each ship gets more expensive than other ships of that same class, it typically makes sense to buy the most expensive ship you can afford. You can also merge ahead of your class (see below).
    • The “always upgrade” philosophy is true at least through the Lucifer ship.
  • Merge ahead of your class: You can merge ships together into higher class ships even if you have not unlocked that ship class yet. In this game it is generally better to have a few powerful ships than many weak ships.
  • Merge to restore power: Since your ships do die die when they run out of power, sometimes it can make sense to run their power all the way down. And then rather than waiting on a multi-minute restoration, you can automatically restore it. If you have a low power ship stored in the base and another ship of that same class you can send the other ship to the base and then merge the two ships and you will have a ship of the next more powerful class with full power.
  • Keep Open Spaces in Your Base: Try to keep at least 2 open spaces in your base at all times (outside of the tips described below).
    • Sometimes you can have a ship die AND get a present right around the same time.
    • If you base is full then a ship which runs out of power does not go to the base for repairs but is instead destroyed. When a ship costs over a million points that sucks!
  • Save Your Best Ships: If you die the level restarts with your ships having full powers in the storage base.
    • If you are absolutely certain you will lose a level then it can make sense to intentionally set your best ships in the base first so that when the weaker ships die they do not waste a base slot that could have went to one of your better ships.
    • As you get further into the game getting the present of entry level ships is more of a nuisance than a gift as you have to keep merging together the weaker ships so you do not have many of them wasting spaces in your base for when the levels get much more difficult.
  • Delay level completion to restore health: If you have a few powerful ships and some weaker ships then when you have almost completed a level you can put the powerful ships in the base for timed repairs while your weaker ships slowly play out the level & bring the powerful ships out when their power is fully restored.
