Tennis Open 2021 Single Player Tennis Game for Kids Video Game Play Instructions

• Starting the Game
  • When the game loads the first time it plays a quick tutorial showing how to serve and how to return serves. After that it loads the main menu page with the following options: training, championship, collections, character, and shop.
    • Training – this allows you to play a quick match.
      • Your opponent is automatically chosen for you, but you get to choose the level of game difficulty and court surface material.
      • Winning is worth 50, 100 or 150 points depending on if you play on easy, medium or hard.
      • Losing is worth 25 points no matter what difficulty level you play on.
    • Championship – win 5 times in a row to get a trophy.
      • Initially Australia is open.
      • After you beat Australia you can then beat France, then Great Britain, and then the United States.
      • If you lose a match you earn 25 points.
      • Your earnings for winning matches changes across opens.
        • Australian is worth 50 points each for the first 4 rounds and 100 points on the final round.
        • France is worth 100 points each for the first 4 rounds and 200 points for the final round.
        • Great Britain is worth 200 points each for the first 4 rounds and 300 points for the final round.
        • United States is worth 300 points each for the first 4 rounds and 400 points for the final round.
    • Collections
      • This shows which trophies you have won & cross-links back to the Championship section.
    • Character – Upgrade your shot accuracy, speed and reaction time.
      • Each attribute can be upgraded 10 times.
      • Upgrade prices increase as you upgrade each feature: 50, 100, 250, 500, 1250, 2150, 3250, 4500, 5750, & 7200.
      • The cost of fully upgrading one feature is 26,000 and the cost of fully upgrading all 3 is 78,000.
      • Due to the sliding price scale it makes sense to upgrade all 3 in parallel, particularly early in the game when the upgrades are cheap.
    • Shop – buy premium tennis rackets. There are 6 rackets for sale.
      • The first racket costs 900. It increases shot accuracy and speed by 5% each.
      • The second racket costs 1,800. It increases shot accuracy by 10% and speed by 5%.
      • The third racket costs 2,700. It increases shot accuracy by 10% and speed by 15%.
      • The fourth racket costs 3,600. It increases shot accuracy by 5% and speed by 25%.
      • The fifth racket costs 4,500. It increases shot accuracy by 25% and speed by 15%.
      • The sixth racket costs 5,400. It increases shot accuracy and speed by 30% each.
• Game Controls
  • Desktop
    • To serve left click your mouse anywhere on the screen, move your mouse so the position indicator is where you want the serve to go & then release to serve.
    • Your character automatically runs back and forth, however you have to time the racket swing and control its direction by having your mouse left clicked & dragging it along the direction you want the shot to go.
  • Touchscreen devices
    • Tap anywhere on the screen and move your finger to aim the serve. Note you are better off tapping away from where your serve is going so that as you move your finger it does not get in the way of the indicator.
    • Tap anywhere on the screen with your finger and slide it to time & direct your shot.
  • The game shows your score and sets won in the upper left corner while showing your opponent’s score & matches won in the upper right corner.
  • The lower left corner of the game has a full screen mode button & the lower right corner of the game has a pause button.
  • When you are on a menu screen your current coin savings are show at the top of the screen.
• Game Play
  • Serving
    • Move the indicator dot near a corner of the serving box and serve.
  • Returning Serves
    • You typically can only return serves after your feet are set.
    • You have to select the timing of the swing and set the angle of it, making the game much harder than the 2020 version of this game where a player could passively hold in the arrow keys for the direction they wanted to hit.
  • Match Structure
    • In practice each match consists of a single set which is best of 3 games.
    • In tournament mode matches consists of a single set where the first player to win 3 games (best of 5) wins.
  • Difficulty
    • This game is much more difficult than the 2020 version of the same across many dimensions
      • requires far more precision in timing and movement action to return serves
      • matches are longer
      • the earnings process is way slower with training matches worth far less points each AND you only get 25 points if you lose a training match (in the prior game you could earn 500 win or lose)
    • On a cell phone using hard angled dink shots that barely clear the net (like tap the screen and drag your finger horizontally) works quite well, but on desktop this game is frustratingly difficult to play with a mouse.
